TISSNET
Tata Institute of Social Sciences conducts a National Entrance Test

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) conducts a National Entrance Test (NET) exam known as TISSNET. The exam is conducted for all Masters programmes offered in TISS campuses at Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad, Guwahati, IMHST Chennai, MHAT Calicut and G-SET Ranchi.
TISS does not offer any MBA programme. Instead, it offers MA in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations (HRM & LR) programme at its Mumbai campus. It also offers various other Masters degrees.

TISS-NET 2018 was conducted successfully on January 6, 2018. The result of the exam has been declared on January 27, 2018.

TISS-NET is a computer-based entrance exam. The entrance test consists of objective questions related to Social Sensitivity, Logical Reasoning, Analytical Ability and Knowledge on Contemporary issues. The exam is held for 100 minutes (1 hour & 40 minutes).

Candidates are first shortlisted on the basis of TISS NET scores. They are later called for Pre-Written Test or/and Personal Interviews.

  • Candidates with bachelor’s degree (minimum of three years duration) or equivalent from a recognized university is eligible to apply.
  • At the time of applying, candidates studying in three-year degree programmes should have passed all subjects from first to fourth semesters; while candidates studying in four-year degree programmes should have passed in all subjects for first to the sixth semester.
  • Only those candidates who will be able to complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor’s Degree examinations by the first week of being eligible to apply to the entire programme.
  • There’s no age limit for TISSNET exam.
  • Till the time the candidate submit results of the final year degree examination, admission to any of the Master’s Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional, informed the official website. Those who fail to do so the provisional admission stands cancelled.

MICAT exam pattern is as follows:

  • MICAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • The duration of the exam will be 3 hours
  • The exam paper will consist of approximately 94 questions

The questions will be spread across 6 sections: The Psychometric test is a qualifier. Aspirants who qualify on the Psychometric test shall be further assessed for MICAT sections on Verbal ability, Quantitative ability, General awareness and Divergent-Convergent Reasoning.

Candidates can expect descriptive as well as objective type questions in the exam paper

Based on scores in MICAT, candidates will be called for Group Exercise (GE) and

Personal Interview (PI).

The GE allows the panel to assess a candidate’s personality, clarity in thought and ability to work in a team, while the PI helps understand a candidate’s knowledge, determination, maturity, and fit in the culture of MICA and the industries to which it caters.

SCOPE AND COVERAGE OF QUESTIONS UNDER DIFFERENT SUBJECT AREAS

MICAT paper will consist of questions from Psychometric, Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, General Awareness, Divergent-Convergent Reasoning and Descriptive Test.
The question paper is designed in a manner to assess a candidate’s analytical and verbal ability, logical reasoning, divergent thinking, written communication skills, creativity potential and general awareness about contemporary social and industry related issues, including areas like media, marketing, advertising and business.

In the Psychometric test, the candidates will have to answer a few unconventional questions related to their personality and general environment.

There will be three questions:

  • A set of 25-30 statements will be given; the candidates will have to select 10 statements which describe their personality.
  • A set of two argument will be given for the candidates to rate them according to their personality.
  • A particular situation will be given along with two options. The candidates will have to select one option according to their preference/personality.

Creative writing test will contain essay writing on a given current topic, story writing from a set of pictures and a topic on which the candidates will have to write either in favor of or against and justify their stand.
While, Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability consist of topics same as other management exams, General Awareness section includes current trends and topics in media, marketing, advertising and business industries. Questions range from brand logos and taglines, to celebrity endorsements to mergers, acquisitions, awards etc.
